The Cricket Control Board in India (BCCI) has announced the long-awaited World Cup team. MSK Prasad addressed the reporters and appointed the 15-man squad that includes the expected names with Virat Kohli who will lead India for the first time in the mega event that will begin on May 30 with the game between England and South Africa. Ambati Rayudu, after all the deliberations and not being in good shape, has led him to miss the flight to England.
Vijay Shankar, Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja are the two team members. The first seems to be another option to assume the role of batting in the number four for the team, while, for the first time, the bowling attack seems ordered for the Men in Blue. The rhythm trio of Mohammed Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah have the ability to overthrow any opposition in their day.
They will be assisted by the duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal who will turn on the wrist, while Kedar Khadhav is expected to move his arm if necessary during some of the matches.
Karthik knocks down his pants
The hot topic ahead of the squad announcement was the back-up wicket-keeper’s spot and that has been grabbed by Dinesh Karthik.. The exuberance of youth was not preferred by the selectors and team management before the experienced Dinesh Karthik, who has a calm head on his shoulders. It was not a surprising decision for many, since Pant has had no impact on his short career in ODI so far and Karthik is the much better option in that regard.
The tastes of Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan and MS Dhoni go anywhere on any given day. While the opening duo of India will assume the same role they did in the 2015 World Cup, while veteran Dhoni will play as a player and not as a captain for the first time in all the T20 and 50 World Cups in his career.
Although the World Cup will begin on May 30, India will begin its campaign on June 5 against South Africa in Southampton.
